FINAL REVIEW MEETING

The final review of the Populate Project is taking place today, as the consortium has arrived in Luxembourg. Following 18 months of engaging work, the consortium members are now ready to showcase the Populate prototype platform and game, along with interesting data and plans for future opportunities. The consortium will meet the review team from the European Commission to present these results and the prototype.

AMA, mobile games developer and part of the Populate consortium, and Optinvent, the internationally renowned wearable technology manufacturer, are happy to announce their collaboration for bringing a new gaming experience to ORA-2 smart glasses and the ORA-X smart AR headphones.
This partnership will combine AMA’s expertise in building games and apps for innovative technologies with Optinvent’s cutting edge wearable products. The focus will be on shaping the Populate prototype to the ORA-2 and ORA-X platforms, as the need for specially-designed software for wearable devices is increasing and will revolutionise both the gaming and wearable technology industries.

AMA, sister company to Ubisoft and Gameloft, has been developing mobile games and applications for over 11 years and is maintaining a high interest in building applications for the innovative technologies. In 2012 AMA’s team was the first in Europe to create a game prototype for smart glasses and is now involved in developing the prototype for a game development framework called Populate.
Populate is a collaborative project that combines a multi-device approach with 3D crowd generation and advanced behaviour management. The developed prototype runs on a large range of mobile hardware like smartphones, tablets and wearable devices and it provides an asymmetric gameplay in which two users that play against each other have different gaming experiences.
The project’s consortium is formed of AMA, Golaem – a French company developing a software solution for populating backgrounds and midgrounds of films, TV series and commercials, and Trinity College of Dublin, an internationally active research group in computer graphics, computer vision and all aspects of visual computing. The project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme under grant agreement no 644655.
Optinvent is a high-tech company that manufactures wearable display products and is most recently known for the ORA line of augmented reality smart devices. Optinvent has also created the world’s first smart AR headphones. The team has developed patented technologies, extensive know-how and manufacturing expertise to create a disruptive new category of wearable devices.
Optinvent’s latest product, the ORA-2, is a new smart glass platform capable of supporting a multitude of mobile applications with best in class performance, design and form factor. Running on Android, the device features a transparent retinal projection technology for a crisp, bright image display.

POPULATE PROJECT AT BUCHAREST
TECHNOLOGY WEEK 2016

This year marks the first edition of Bucharest Technology Week with a wide range of activities from exhibitions and conferences to meet-ups and plenty of networking opportunities. The event aims to bring together both tech professionals and enthusiasts and over 10,000 attendees are expected between the 23rd and 29th of May. This edition will focus on innovation and the integration of new technologies.
The Populate consortium is happy to support the initiative and will be there to talk about innovation and new technologies, demonstrate the Populate prototype and discuss future business opportunities.

THE POPULATE PROJECT AT GDC 2016

This year, the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco offered 5 days of the most high-level development tools available, as well as new platforms and services in the gaming industry. The GDC 2016 exhibition was an important opportunity for the consortium to showcase the Populate Project and interact with participants from all over the world.
Our representatives talked about the prototype platform for developing new genres of asymmetric video games on mobile devices. The Populate booth hosted more than 200 live demonstrations of the gameplay and real-time multiplayer battles.
The cutting-edge technology sparked the curiosity of visitors interested in innovation and the way in which the Populate platform will be integrated and used as a tool for other games. The consortium also connected with smartglasses manufacturers for potential business opportunities.

The consortium is happy to announce the participation to the Game Developers Conference to be held in San Francisco, CA between the 14th and 18th of March 2016.
For the 30th edition of the GDC that is just around the corner, the consortium will be at the Populate booth - PL711 - to present the project and provide live demonstrations of the gameplay, including real-time multiplayer battles.
Games Developers Conference, the world's largest and longest-running professionals-only game industry event attracts over 26,000 attendees and is the primary forum where programmers, artists, producers, game designers, audio professionals, business decision-makers and others involved in the development of interactive games gather to exchange ideas and shape the future of the industry.

FIRST INTERMEDIARY REVIEW

The first intermediary review of the POPULATE Project will take place in Luxembourg. The consortium will present the progress of the project to the European Commission's review team.
ICT 2015 CONFERENCE

Last week, on 20 - 22 October 2015, POPULATE project was present at ICT conference that took place in Lisbon, Portugal. The Innovate - Connect - Transform event, organised by the European Commission was an opportunity to network, follow interesting debates and hear the latest news regarding the EC's policies and initiatives with regard to Research & Innovation in ICT. More than 5,700 people attended, including important delegates and as well as the Portuguese President!
The Populate booth welcomed more than 200 visitors over the 3 days of the conference. We have demonstrated the project and discussed the importance of innovation in the field of mobile games. We've made around 75 gameplay demonstration during the event using multiple devices (smartphones, tablets, TV and smart glasses).

The consortium is proud to announce that it has been selected by the European Commission for the ICT 2015 conference that will take place in Lisbon, Portugal, from 20th to 22nd of October 2015.

The progress of the project's first months was successfully presented between the consortium members. The meeting was held at Trinity College Dublin in Irland, between May 18th - 19th.
PROJECT KICK-OFF MEETING

The consortium members held the project kick-off meeting at the Golaem office in Rennes, France, on the 28th of January. This was the occasion to pitch and discuss the first project draft, and the project's delivery plan.
